"The Commitments" page 1
Comments
This is a good open-ended project which takes the students by surprise the first time they read the problem. Many are not sure how to start the problem.
It is most suited for Year 10 and 11 students after they have learned about circles.
The open-ended part of the project shows students that maths isn't always as exact as they might think.
The clip occurs about halfway through the movie, just as someone is turning off the lights of a large pool hall.

"The Commitments." Maths in the Movies. Project 5.
This is from the soundtrack of a well known recent movie. It was made in 1991 and has often been shown on television. In the movie 10 people formed the circle and patted each other on the back.
What was the radius of the circle?
Try it with your class when you do some good work!
What will be the radius of the circle then?
Name the movie!
